Mobilisation & Demob Costs — What Eats the UAE Rental Margin
Mobilisation and demob is the line item most rental owners underprice — it's also the line that most often turns a profitable rental into a loss. Sheikh Zayed Road restrictions, escort requirements, cross-emirate fees and night-only delivery windows can quadruple the apparent transport cost. This article puts real numbers on each component.
What this guide covers
What mob/demob costs really comprise
- Low-bed truck hire (per hour or per trip).
- Loading and securing labour.
- Flagging vehicles (front + rear).
- Police escort if route requires.
- Permits for oversized / overweight movement.
- Salik / Darb / Sharjah toll charges.
- Cross-emirate transit fees on certain routes.
- Night-window standby time.
Low-bed transport rates (2026 indicative)
| Trip type | Standard low-bed | Heavy low-bed (40T+ payload) |
|---|---|---|
| Within Sharjah | AED 600–900 | AED 1,000–1,500 |
| Sharjah → Dubai | AED 800–1,200 | AED 1,400–2,000 |
| Sharjah → Abu Dhabi | AED 1,500–2,200 | AED 2,800–4,000 |
| Sharjah → RAK / Fujairah | AED 1,200–1,800 | AED 2,200–3,200 |
| Sharjah → Al Ain | AED 1,800–2,500 | AED 3,200–4,500 |
Round-trip (mob + demob) typically billed at 1.7× one-way (deadhead on the return).
Flagging and escort vehicles
Required when load width > 3.5 m or length > 22 m. Typical UAE rules:
- Front flagging vehicle: AED 250–400/trip.
- Rear flagging vehicle: AED 200–350/trip.
- Police escort for very wide loads (50T+ crane, all-terrains): AED 800–1,500/trip if obtainable; sometimes requires 48-hr advance booking.
Permits and emirate-crossing fees
- RTA Dubai oversized-load permit: AED 500–1,500 depending on load class.
- Abu Dhabi DOT abnormal-load permit: AED 800–2,200.
- Sharjah Police movement permit: AED 200–600.
- Salik (Dubai tolls): AED 4–8 per gate, low-bed counts as commercial.
- Darb (Abu Dhabi tolls): AED 4 per gate, commercial multiplier.
Time-of-day road restrictions
- Sheikh Zayed Road (Dubai): oversized loads typically restricted to 11pm–5am.
- Emirates Road / E311: some sections restricted during peak hours.
- Inside Dubai Marina, Downtown, Business Bay: heavy-vehicle bans during business hours.
- Sharjah industrial: generally fewer restrictions; mob/demob can happen during the day.
Night-window deliveries add operator/driver overtime, AED 200–400 per trip.
Inter-emirate cost matrix (mob ONLY — round-trip is roughly 1.7×)

|---|---|---|---|
| Sajaa | Dubai Industrial 1 | AED 1,600 | AED 850 |
| Sajaa | Dubai Marina / Downtown (night) | AED 2,400 | AED 1,400 |
| Sajaa | Abu Dhabi (Mussafah) | AED 3,200 | AED 1,800 |
| Sajaa | Ruwais (ADNOC area) | AED 5,500 | AED 3,200 |
| Sajaa | Al Ain | AED 4,000 | AED 2,200 |
How to price mob/demob into rentals
- Always bill separately. Never bundle mob/demob into day rate — the contractor will think it's free and you'll absorb the cost.
- Quote round-trip up front. "AED 3,000 mob + demob, Sajaa-to-ADNOC-Ruwais" — no surprises, no disputes.
- Cost-plus 15%. The mark-up covers admin, coordination time and small overruns.
- Charge demob on a separate invoice. If the renter extends the contract, the demob fee is renegotiated; if they don't pay it, you don't deliver the next unit.
- Build a default low-bed relationship. Two or three regular transporters who know your fleet beats spot-quoting every time.
